Title: Problem Playing VDR recordings in MEDIA/VIDEO
Post by: jefigo on May 15, 2008, 08:41:59 am
Hi all,
with upgrading to 0710 RC1 (64bit) i switched from mythtv to vdr. I live in germany and use dvb-s. The configuration was very easy and watching tv is much better than it was with mythtv.
My Problem is that when i am watching a vdr recording using the linuxmce orbiter (media/video) it stops with the ending of the first xxx.vdr file.
Is there anything i didn't recognize during configuration?

thanks

Hi all,
i found a way to fix the problem. I copy the .vdr files (normaly 001.vdr and 002.vdr) to /home/public/data/videos/ using the cat command.

Example:
  cat 00*.vdr > /home/public/data/videos/title_of_recording.vdr

After this i delete the old recording in VDR. Unfortunately the text information about the recording is lost.
But my children can watch the whole recording using the media library.

There is a VDR plugin that can transcode recordings to other formats like AVI wich should play better in LinuxMCE...
If it could do this automatically it would be even better...

Ping Totallymaxed on this - I'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to be like that. I remember seeing the same thing ages ago (when I first tried VDR for recording) and thinking "that's silly!" But subsequently, saw that they appeared somewhere else and played correctly, but can't remember how it worked.... Andrew will know...
