Title: [SOLVED] Command line login issue
Post by: Blackhat on March 12, 2008, 05:12:48 pm
I'm feeling very dumb right now.  I can not log into command line doing [ctrl]+[alt]+F1

LinuxMCE 0704 DVD install

I paid special attention to what the setup said my username and password was.  (and the PIN number for what it's worth)  I got into MCE, jumped down to command line login and entered it... no go.  Wrong username/password.  Switched over to KDE interface and ran the User Management.  Found out my username was actually pluto_username.  Reset the password to something I knew what it'd be, then got back down to command line.  I could successfully log in but immediately logged me back out.  I'm going to assume that the initrd has some script to prevent direct login's... that or I'm doing something WAY wrong.  After a reboot I can't even use the pluto_username with my new password.  Does it change that back to some default password?  I'm feeling lost not being able to log into command line =(

I'm trying to get down to command line so I can run and install new Nvidia drivers due to OpenGL problems with the "nv" driver.  I tried just changing it to "nvidia" in the xorg.conf but it crashes X on the reboot.  I've searched but couldn't find anything on it.  Then again, I've always been cursed when it comes to searching =D

If this is a fresh install try linuxmce for both username and password.

the user/pass/Pin given at the install are just logon data for LMCE itself, not for the ubuntu base.
