Title: Yet Another "building"...
Post by: philippefs35 on March 05, 2008, 05:22:18 am
I'm building myself a new LinuxMCE system and I just wanted to be sure that all of my computer parts choices would be compatible with it. I also want to be sure that I'll be able to run UI2 with alpha blending or masking smoothly... Furthermore, I want to be able to watch live TV.

Biostar TF7050-M2 GF7050PC
NZXT Duet HTPC / Tower ATX Case Silver Black
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual Core Processor AM2 2.5GHZ 2X512KB 65W 65NM
Silverstone Strider ST350 350W ATX12V 20/24PIN Power Supply W/120MM Fan
Kingston ValueRAM PC2-4200 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-533 CL4 240PIN DIMM Memory Kit
Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 Media Center Kit MPEG2 PCI TV Tuner Retail Box W/ Certified MCE Remote
Western Digital SE16 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Cache 8.9MS
LG GSA-H55N Black DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW 20X6X16 INT IDE 2MB

I'll buy this kit three times (but the HDD) and one will serve as a hybrid. Does anybody have a similar configuration? I heard that this motherboard has BIOS problems, did anyone have any problems installing a CPU similar to mine on it?

Thanks a lot,
Philippe

The AMD BE2400 would be the optimum processor. I don't think you need 2 GB of ram (but its cheap now).
Get an HDHomeRun tuner. The analog broadcast in the US has less than a year to survive and the seperate tuner system is far more stable than the inboard cards.
I don't know about the bios issues.

I may buy one HDHomeRun but I'm not even sure that we have ATSC over the air digital content here, in Montreal. I might get some signal from the US though... Could anyone who lives in Montreal or close to confirm?
