Title: s/pdif output problem
Post by: jgaffney on January 16, 2008, 08:01:34 pm
Greetings,

I'm having issues with the s/pdif output.  I have sound, but all output goes to all 5 channels.

I have a 5.1 receiver and a Diamond Xtreme Sound XS71DDL sound card connect with an optical connection.
Is this an alsa config problem? or maybe a driver?

Thank you.

It may be a config problem or a content problem. You can run alsamixer from a consle on the machine in question and check the supported options and settings. However the content may not cooperate with your desires- 5 ch in and 2 ch out unless to set it that way.

You'll have to unmute spdif ( IEC958 ) from alsamixer.

I have my SPDIF connected to my amp no problem, and the AVWizard plays Dolby Digital through it - I can see on the amp and heard that it is surround. But the DTS test doesn't work for some reason - I heard nothing at all! The amp indicates that it is getting no input. The exact same cable into the exact same amp from another source plays both perfectly.....

Any ideas what might be wrong???

yeap, there is a compatibility issue, but that  needs more investigation.

the DTS test works for Coax digital but for optical just wont play. the file is there but the receiver doesn't play it. the dts file is not making loud noise (i can't hear it playing) but at least the receiver locks on dts after dolby test.

Does this mean that DTS does actually work, just not the test for it? Or are you saying that DTS doesn't work at all in LMCE?

the dts works in Linuxmce

the dts test in av wizard works only for coax, for optical it doesn't lock on dts. needs more investigation.

Sorry, I should have replied shortly after my last post, because I tested it with a DTS movie and it worked perfectly, so yes I realise now that it is just the test :)
