Title: Your own pictures as screensavers
Post by: RichardP on January 10, 2008, 02:00:41 pm
Hi Guys,

I really like the way LMCE displays pictures when it's idle, but I thought I'd like to have our own pictures as well. I got the info from the wiki article at http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Use_my_own_pictures_in_the_Screen_Saver which gave me all the information I needed. However, I found the admin website too cumbersome to use for adding multiple image, so I wrote a script to make the job easier.

If you're interested in doing the same, the script is available for download from my blog at http://www.pillayfamily.com/blogs/index.php/LinuxMCE

I'll add it to the wiki in a few days, after I know it's not going to cause mass panic or do other bad things.  ???

My wife has been asking for this for some time. I'll try and do this as soon as possible to let you know how it goes. Much thanks.

Nice work Richard :-)

Under 0710 you have an improved ability to add pictures through a new menu item in Web Admin -> Files & Media -> Screen Saver this lest you navigate to a directory and visually select images for the screen saver.

That's going to be really welcome. I can see the beginnings of that in the current beta2, but I couldn't get it work well for me, and I certainly didn't want to add dozens of images that way, as you could only select each one individually and then click update.

That said, may the next order of business is to provide a button in the WebAdmin screen, that while you are looking at a directory full of images, can add all of them at once. Or is that what you meant by "visually select images"?

Richard, I just added about 300 images to my screensaver using your script and it works a treat.

Great work.  :)

Thanks

Glad it works for you. Did you add all the pictures into a single directory, or into multiple ones?

Hi Richard,

There is now a 'Select all' tick-box at the bottom the image list so managing large sets of images in individual folders is now much easier. However this does not work with nested folders yet.

Hi Richard,

I had them spread across two directories.
