Title: Install Over Ubuntu
Post by: singpolyma on January 02, 2008, 04:16:19 pm
If I have an existing install of Ubuntu (not Kubuntu) will the CD installer work to add the LinuxMCE packages over that?  Will it work with Gutsy?

It would be really cool if linuxmce was a meta-package like ubuntu-desktop and one could just add the linuxmce repositories and go

apt-get install linuxmce

You could install KDE on top of ubuntu, then install linuxmce..

LMCE does require kde, and cannot run on top of gnome.

This is a big reason why it's not a repository...
Also, it's such a large project, it'll plug up the repositories...  ;)

Although theoretically that might be possible... i would not advise it. You are opening yourself up to a ton of potential problems. At present i would just do a normal install from CD on top of Kubuntu 7.04 (just vanilla install... dont' even update anything) then apply the CD's or even easier sue the DVD (but beware that will wipe the WHOLE drive you install too!)
