Title: anyone got detailed fiire engine specs
Post by: shortydigital on December 20, 2007, 05:09:32 pm
i was wondering whats the model is of the sound card that has optical and coaxial out. It doesn't look like a full blown sound card, but maybe a daughter card that is just has outputs and atttaches internally to the mobo via cables as apposed to a sound card in a slot that actually processes the sound.

also whats the model/part number for the video out card , it appears the same as just a output only card.  it has composite, component, and s-video. I belive the nvidia chipset is in the mobo, so this is just additional outputs.

Anyone know any more about either of these?

Thanks Shaun

Greg,

Thanx for the link to my thread.. lol

Shorty, (if I may call you that)
Sound card is implemented on the motherboard.  I don't recall seeing spdif out, but check that thread.. the mainboard Model number is there, you can search for it, and check it's specs..
The video card is again built into the motherboard.  When I go down stairs, I'll double check that...

I don't have one, but I am pretty sure the Fiire engine uses a M2NPV-VM  motherboard, which has support for SPDIF out but you need a bracket extension with the plug on it, which doesn't come by default - however Fiire might be including it.

Thanks guys, the info was there. Looks like both the video and audio had expansion slots that hang off the Mobo. makes sense now just kinda threw me off a little since it wasn't list separately in any of the specs. thanks again.

Glad to help, BTW, mine is working quite well...
I wouldn't recommend the Fiire Stations though..  I have 2 of them, and wish I could return them...

the 1" seems to lock up quite regularly, and NONE of the stations support mythtv. :(

Dan I think the Fiire Engine uses the Via 890 (ie Cx700) graphics chip... at least thats what Fiire say.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it...
Fiire's VIA drivers don't load kde... I can run KDE and the MD at the same time...
Also, you can't run Mythtv on the VIA drivers.. I can run myth on my Engine..
this tells me it's an NVidia..
Also, the menus are ALL UI2.. not like the VIA drivers on the stations..

I'll double check it when I get a change, and let you know...

Dan
