Title: LinuxMCE on top of existing Ubuntu Server OR?
Post by: kasperbs on December 16, 2007, 01:24:34 am
Hi this might seem like a strange question. And maybe you can suggest another approach.
My dad has got Ubuntu Server Edition installed and he uses it mainly in conjunction wit jinzora as a music jukebox, but it also maintians his weekly and daily backups. He would however also like to use LinuxMCE for his video and TV.

Is there anyway that we could install LinuxMCE (hybrid) on top of the Ubuntu Server Edition without messing up the Web/Music Server?

No in a word. As LinuxMCE is only installable on Kubuntu currently.

Why does the LMCE Core need Kubuntu installed? The Orbiters and maybe MDs I could see, and of course a hybrid. But does the Core really depend on Kubuntu? And if so, is it just an arbitrary dependency? Maybe to keep the dependencies uniform among Core/Orbiter/MD, so it's easier to hybridize any installed version later, with dependeds already installed.

I seem to remember someone saying launchmanager has been written to use KDE - but there could be more dependencies as well.
