Title: Shopping List For Inexpensive Core / Hybrid
Post by: solero10 on December 13, 2007, 07:43:09 pm
I am looking at building an inexpensive core / hybrid.  What do you think?

$105: Mobo, Case, Power Supply

$43:  AMD Sempron 64 3600+

$25: 1GB Memory: Have not picked one yet

Hard drives, dvd drive, I will scavenge from other computers in the house.

I realize that the MotherBoard is not one of the ones listed in the Wiki but since it has a NVIDIA GeForce 6100 video card and that seems to cause most of the problems, I thought that this may work.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

A little more pricey (169.00), but this is the one I'm using and it has a GeForce 6150 with dvi-out....

I'm only using a Sempron 3000 so that kept the price down..  I also have 1GB ram..

Please note, however, I've only gotten the UI2 medium interface working...  I can't get alpha-blending to work with the card...  others on this site don't seem to have any problems with the GeForce 6150...

Thanks for your response.

In a last minute decision, I configured the following system from Dell for $329.  I am not sure exactly what kind of motherboard it has but hopefully I can figure it out when I get it and document my results with LinuxMCE on the Wiki.

- AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+
- 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz-2DIMMs
- 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
- 48X CD-RW/ DVD Combo Drive
- NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Integrated Graphics GPU
- Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
- Dell USB Keyboard and
- Dell Optical USB Mouse
