Hi Dave,

As the Devs don't always have the time to read the Forums I would suggest that you post something onto Mantis (a Dev will then pick it up) about the need for Dutch language support and that you have already done the work. Mantis can be found here http://mantis.linuxmce.org/my_view_page.php

Regards

Andrew

yeah, that's nice, until they don't want to answer your question.. they basically blew me off when i asked to work with one of them to help make a better HADesigner manual.....

Well I don't know the circumstances that made that happen. In my experience the vast majority of people involved in the development of lmce are really very friendly and nearly always helpful. Maybe you caught whoeever it was on a bad day ;-). It happens right?

Loose your anger and don't take it personally... and then use a little psychology to change their position and win them around - in the end that usually works ;-)

Hmmm... ok it was not the best response ever... but Dan did offer some info and try to be helpful. You have to remember they are doing there level best to get 0710 out the door right now. They are working very long days and are under a lot of pressure. So just keep that in mind... and leave it until 0710 has 'shipped' and then try again... and 'turn on' the charm a little ;-)

I agree... I also from time to time try to talk to them and most of the time they're busy... But when you're lucky, you get all help you need...

Doing something useful with HA Designer is I guess in common interest for the whole community. I also propose to wait till 710 and then we can try again... I'll also talk to Dan, if I get lucky.... What I heard, working with HADesigner is quite difficult, although this is the only option at the moment

Bulek.

Guys,

What a fuss about my post, the only thing i was talking about was that i offered the dutch language for linuxMCE for everyone.

Guys from linuxMCE, keep up the good work, the rest that complains, take a hike, its still open-source with community support.

BIG SMILES :D :D :D

Hmmm... yep I agree. Anyway I would just go ahead and offer your Dutch language on Mantis as I suggested. Everyones a little busy just now so you might not get an instant response. Contributions like yours are very important to the whole project. Thanks!

For anybody who wants to use the Dutch langauage in linuxMCE i wrote a mini howto to accomplish this in the linuxMCE database on easy basis. Zip file is attached ( Dutch.zip )

For questions mail me at dave at haakenhout dot nl

He devs and evrybody else of course,

I uploaded the zip file that contains the neccessary files for the dutch language, i have to say 60 % is translated through google translate, but i made some adjustments because google tgranslate is not 100 % accurate. I have done translating now for 95 % of the dutch language from english, but overall its already good usable.

The things you have to do are :

1 ) install phpmyadmin from aptitude ( So apt-get install phpmyadmin )

2 ) when you're done with phpmyadmin, point you're browser to http://dcerouter/phpmyadmin or http://192.168.X.X/phpmyadmin ( what is in you're needs )

3 ) Then when you're loggen in with 'root' and NO password ( this is default on the mysql database of linuMCE ) go to the left panel with the drop down menu what says ' databases ' or ' database ' depends on the language  youre are using in phpmyadmin , then select the database  'pluto_main '

4 ) If everything is alright you'll see a lot of so called database tables on the left and on the right, this is bit confusing in phpmyadmin, but for the newbies stick to the left panel in this little howto. scroll down to the table Language and just click on it then you select automatically this table, on the right pane above there is a line called ' export ' just click on this, just leave all options default exept ' the button ' send ' left below and mark it , via this we can save the file ' Language.sgl '  to our local pc .

5 ) Ok, we now have a backup just in case if something happens and linuxMCE would't work anymore.

6 ) extract the zip file i uploaded, there you see 5 .sql files, do the same thing with all these other 4 files because in the example we already exported Language as in step ( 4 )

7 ) If you exported these 5 files to you're local pc then you're are ready to just delete these 5 files in you're pluto_main database, yes DELETE, this is the way it worked out quite well for me.

8 ) When you've deleted the files in you're database, you're have to import file by file from my zip file that you've just extracted to you're local pc.

9 ) In fact this way worked for me so just give it a try and when you just followed this mini howto, it will be just working fine.

10 ) Good luck and enjoy ( If someone feels free to help me out onb the Dutch translation for the rest ia have to translate please contact me at dave at haakenhout dot nl , and i will give that person some instruction via mail howto live edit the main language files via the application HADesginer of pluto itself.

Hi everyone,
I'm on the beggining of my journey through LinuxMCE and found this post really interesting.
It would be great to have localized versions of this magnificent piece of software.
I would be interested in translate it to Portuguese (PT). Can you give me some headlines (or web links) to how I can get started?
Any help would be apreciated.

Maybe we could build a repository of tranlated versions (like add ons). What do you think? I'm willing to do my small part in this huge project ;-)

Hello Dave,

I'm going to give your dutch language sql file a try this week. Thanks in advance for the effort.

I took the liberty of adding some wiki pages:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Local_nl

For your info: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4907.0 (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4907.0)

Let me know what you think of this idea....

Does anybody know who's working on: http://www.linuxmce.nl (http://www.linuxmce.nl) ??

He Wout,

For this time in English, i'm glad that someone is in need of the dutch language, i do this for a hobby and have little time like everyone else, i translated a lot more since i made that document, for instance i tranlated 95 % of the linux admin website, bit tricky though because some things are also in sql and some only in html and php and java,so besides that i will give you those files as well, the translation is not full accurate, because i made a beginning and later on i will shape some stuff, i only need a place to upload the files you need, maybe you can help me with some stuff and guide me to a upload server or something. Thanks for taking you're time, i also read that you had some mythtv problems, i also have some problems but is stable now. Contact me here or at dave at haakenhout dot nl

Thanx in advance,

with kind regards,

Dave

Hi all,

First of all, thanks Dave, for kicking off this topic!
I've been reading the LinuxMCE Wiki from top to bottom, seen the video and I am mighty interested in the whole project.

Just last weekend, when I finally banned Vista of my HTPC which I especially assembled for this purpose, I installed another (Open Source - Windows) HTPC solution. I am still stumbling with some things there but it's up and running. Because of this 'stumbling' on a few items, like the quality of the TV channels, I was looking (or browsing) for other solutions until I came around LMCE. I think this could be the total solution that I would like to have... when I get it to work the way even my wife can handle and would (finally) embrace... ;-)

While reading the Wiki and all other (support and FAQ) pages I was wondered that there is nothing said about localization of LMCE. The first time I came around this was at this post.

Can you Dave, or anyone else, please inform me about the following items:
- Is the UI already possible (direct or after some modifications) in the Dutch language (the Admin is of no issue right now)?
- Is there already some solution to retrieve a EPG (automatically would be ideal)?
- Are there some other considerations because this product is (at first) aimed to the US community?

When LMCE can be used in the Dutch language (for my wife, remember ;-) and it supports a EPG for the Dutch TV channels I will install it immediate! Besides of that, I maybe can even be of help to the community as I am a programmer myself (Delphy, PHP, SQL, (D)HTML, Scripts, etc.).

Kind regards,

Ries (Richard)

Definately yes on the EPG.  Don't know about the availability of the dutch localization though.

Hi,

Sorry i forgot that one, take a look at this http://visualization.tudelft.nl/~paul/grabber/ , this is the one i tried from many dutch xmltv epg grabbers, this one is the best, just follow the guideline on that page, if you don't understand something, just put you're question here and i will answer it.
