Check /etc/X11/xorg.conf and see if you are using the nvidia driver not nv.
You need also to select the right video card for your media director in the webadmin.
Also check if X freezes during a non pluto kde session
Hope this help.
-
The driver for xorg is nvidia.
for the MD the config in web admin is
Video Card : Geforce or TNT2
Hardware acceleration : opengl
When I don't launch the Media Director (then only core and KDE is running) then everything is ok. no crash.
This is since I install the new video card.??
-
Try using xv as hardware acceleration and try starting mythtvbackend from kde then well be able to isolate the issue and know what causes slowliness or crashes.
I have Geforce FX5200 and it works great with UI 1/2/3.
I you need my xorg.conf just tell.

Rafik

I have put the hardware acc to xv but still hang of the pc only when media Director is on. not when core is alone launch.
What do you mean by launch mythtvblackend from KDE?
-
in kde open a terminal window and type sudo mythtvbackend so you will use mythtv outside of pluto.
If the issue remain something wrong with pluto / wrapper else in mythtv with this card those drivers or else.
-
it would be worthed looking at xorg logs /var/log
-
in the syslog I have this message :
dcerouter kernel: [ 5750.117435] hci_scodata_packet: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 92

Hmmm... it might be that the 7300 has an IRQ problem with networking if it only happens when you power up a pxe booted MD. Just a thought...
-
What do you mean? that the VGA card is in conflit with network card for the irq? How is the irq managed under linux? Maybe I must change this in BIOS?
-
you tell irq problem but the MD is on the same PC than the CORE then it can be?
-
I think totallymaxed was under the impression that you meant a diskless MD (and so was I) we usually refer to a core+MD as a hybrid.
I wish I could give you some tips, but I have no idea either. Maybe it's a case of bad memory, but I'm guessing as well. You could try letting the memtest (included with kubuntu) run overnight. It can be started from the boot menu (press escape when GRUB tells you to during the boot).
-
I will try this thanks.

Hi Poyon,
I have the same problem with a 7100 GS, it's all fine with kubuntu but when i hit mythtv it just freezes for a while then comes back. lmce installs the nvidia drivers during the setup but it seem like it replaces the glx libraries at reboot. (got to this conclusion since the square in the orbiter changes from red to black in the orbiter and that happens when glx libs are not the right ones).
I think i'm close to solve this but i'd like to do this the proper way.
I shall let you know.

If you suspect a driver issue, you could try installing (and maybe manually configuring) the latest available display drivers: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers
-
Well done Zaerc totallymaxed and others, you've done some really nice job on this wiki page.
Leonja,
Well my issue does not seem to be nvidia related, i noticed in dmesg that i'm getting and error message regarding the rtc driver frequency that freezes my md for few secondes.
So my issue is not nvidia related.
