Title: Linux MCE 704 DVD Post-Install goes POOF
Post by: thraxarious on August 16, 2007, 04:09:51 am
Something strange as I have installed this twice and so far, after I do one install from the All included DVD, the system goes poof from the main boot. I think its something in Grub, but I only have trouble AFTER I've rebooted, shut down, and started again. I am unfortunately not familiar enough to track this issue down and am not sure why it happens after I've installed, set up, shut down, booted fine, shut down again, and then it goes blearf.

Basically, mdadm goes funny and can't find any Devices.

mdadm: No devices listed in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf

after that it gives a few modprobe lines, mount can't read /etc/fstab... anything else..etc.

maybe you could try to modify in /etc/fstab the lines for every partition on your hdd. instead of UUID put the device correspondent to that UUID(/dev/sda1,2....).

Hi,
After installing the DVD again,
it poofed on me the last time.
But now i hit the same wall again...
the same as ur hitting thraxarious.

I was trying to get an extra orbiter going,
and restarted the core.

There are lines in the fstab file,
but it seems like the mdadm file is empty.
What is in there after a new install?

Hope to solve this so i can play with my MC again...
Matthijs.

I installed the dvd again,
the system is working,
But still briefly shows that
"there is no data in mdadm.conf"
so it looks like it's not that,
but actually the system not booting on...

you get a login prompt,
so can't you log in
and start the core manually?

This is for a RAID configuration. Its normal for it to be empty unless you did set up a RAID.

I've got the same issue here....it seems to be a ubuntu issue.  I defintely never asked it to set up a RAID array...but I get told mdadm: no devices listed in /etc/mdadm.conf...and then halts for a while and finally goes to a busybox prompt with (initram) and that's it??   Why the heck is it even trying to load a RAID configuration???  I decided to try again after unlugging my second hard drive in case it was thinking I wanted to use that in a RAID configuration.  Currently waiting to see what happens...mind you I've just tried mythbuntu and that sux...i will be telling the mythbuntu team all about it too.  Looks like ubuntu based stuff doesn't like my system...oh well!

try installing kubuntu 704 first, then the two LMCE CD's instead of using the DVD.
Much more stable on install as it doesn't assume things about your machine like the DVD does (simplified).

Yep... thats what we do when we get this problem. The problem is caused by the fact that the DVD install uses a preinstalled config from hardware that may differ from yours... sometimes with some combinations of hardware this causes a problem.
