Title: Network card not found
Post by: hypfra on May 04, 2007, 11:37:58 am
Hello,

I tried to install linuxmce on a clean Ubuntu 6.10 installation.
The installer stops immediately after the core/hybrid choice, because "there must be at least one network card installed" (or something similar).
The lan is present and is a Realtek 8201CL D version, on my mb ASUS K8V-X SE.

Is it an Ubuntu problem?

Thank you

have you configured the network card? i mean, did you assigned an ip to the NIC?

No. How can I do it?
Sorry, but I'm a newbie in configuring a lan card...

what kind of internet connection do you have?

Analogic 56k... :-(
But this pc is not connected to the internet...
Perhaps it would be helpful downloading Ubuntu updates or can I go on without doing it?
If it's mandatory I can try with a creative serial external modem. Ubuntu should recognize it... I think...

Thank you :)

No it's an external serial modem blaster and not connected. But I can connect it.
The only thing is that it would take a looooooooooooooong time to download all the updates with my 56k connection... :-(

once you connect the modem read this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto). but you should know that this kind of modems could not work in linux. i've seen that your modem worked fine in suse but in ubuntu not (an ubuntu user said this).

Generally speaking I've always read that modems with serial interface should work in Linux... But I don't have any advice about Ubuntu. For sure I can confirm that it works fine in Suse.

Are updates mandatory or can I go on without them?

Sorry... but I can't understand...
Is an internet connection necessary to use linuxmce or not?
If the answer is "yes" perhaps I'm just wasting your time...
