Title: Keeping folder structure in video lists?
Post by: corwin on April 09, 2007, 09:10:13 am
Hi,

I got my movies on my NAS server organized in folders, but the LMCE media browser shows them all in one long list - I guess it's only organizing based on meta tags and not folder structure, which is fine for id3-tagged music, but not really nice for movies...

Before calling this a bug/missing feature, I thought I'd check if there's a way to tell it to use folder structure in the lists and I'm just not seeing it.

TIA, Itai

P.S. This might be a good opportunity to mention another media list annoyance - this one is a "feature" according to Pluto... the media browser doesn't understand compilations, so it creates a folder for every artist in my collection - most of them with a single album and a single song. Unless there's a way to change this behavior, it goes into my "to do yesterday" wishlist.

I agree.  My movies have the movie title in parent directory name, not the file itself.  It should be optional to index the movies by directory name, not file name.

this is also my problem (folder structure view) i don't know if LMCE showing all my video file that i have in the disk and i don't know the file belong to which folder i'm lost in the long list, i hope there is option or fix for that. also i hope LMCE will remember my select becoz i need to select my user as source every time after finish playing any video file to get my private folder otherwise always showing me the public.

thom i will try ur advice but also i wish there is such function for folder view, this will make LMCE a big shot as i found it with other MCE but still MCE is the most reliable so far since most of us using media center for playing video/image/mp3s the other functions in LMCE is additional for us.
thanks

I don't know about anyone else but I have gigs upon gigs of tv shows and such categorized into folders. Perhaps a complete redo isn't in order but rather some sort of wizard for doing mass meta data. I know i rhythm box i can select multiple files and redo metadata there, no problem.

you might want to check out Cover Art Scan, under Media in the Web Admin.... also the other menu items underneath that section. Please, look around.

Let lmce autodetect your other drives or shares...

Hi,

I have just added slightly related feature request....

http://mantis.linuxmce.org/view.php?id=3559 (http://mantis.linuxmce.org/view.php?id=3559)

I really liked that feature in Freevo - so you can have customized ordering per directory...

HTH,

regards,

Bulek.

While viewing the file list, select the leftmost tab. There you can sort the files by artist, genre etc. Usually useless if your videos are not properly tagged. However, there is also an option to sort by "filename". When you select this, you can see the folder structure and navigate it.

I use this all the time for videos...

Files still need to be known in the database though, which happens automatically after a while through UpdateMedia.
