Title: DVD Installs are working -- Use either install method - Thanks.
Post by: phenigma on September 06, 2015, 02:08:31 am
Hi all, the DVD snapshots are broken atm.  They install just fine but are missing some pkgs that are causing havoc communicating on the internal network side.  The network based installs are very robust and should result in a working hybrid.

Thanks for your patience while I work through these new installation upgrades.

DVD installs are functional again.  There are a few minor bugs that I'm squashing still but the discs are usable again.

Again the dvds all have minor errors atm, use net installs as directed in the wiki until a new snapshot comes out.  See the original post for the wiki link.

Hi,

Is the recommended install still net install? or has the dvd snapshots now been fixed?
And 1404 recommended?

Thanx
Karel

No new snapshots have been created.  They will return soon.  1204 is the recommended install, 1404 is available as well.

Next build went through. Brave men are needed for testing. Should arrive at http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/ shortly.

What state is the 14.04 64bit in? does it install and run? diskless MDs? The reason i ask is that i have bought a new server (HP Proliant Micro Gen8) with 16gb ram and it would be cool too give 64bit a try. 64bit system should be a great leap as probably all processors since 10 year are 64bit compatible :)

My opinion is that each of the DVDs are in the exact same state.  They install for me in virtualbox and have access to webadmin and play audio and video.  I have not tested diskless image creation or MDs, feel free to do so and let us know how it goes.  :)

14.04-amd64 installs, run, got avwiz with built in matrox GPU in Proliant server! Good work! :)

now on to the next challenge, is there a way to build amd64 diskless image with Diskless_CreateTBZ?

I'm glad the install went smoothly for you!  Thanks for the feedback!

There is a bunch of back-end work that still has to be completed to support diskless booting/detection of amd64 vs i386 diskless MDs.  For now you can boot i386 diskless MDs on the amd64 image.  It is on my list, but not at the top right now.  Patches are welcome for the interactor and the diskless create process.

A little status update on LMCE 14.04 amd64:

Im having trouble getting my Proliant server to recognize my Terratec DVB-S2 card, but thats not LMCE related. After getting a working TV-card i will give VDR a stab!

Daniel,

see if you have linux-media-dkms installed. That might help with the terrarec.

Thanks for the tip Posde, unfortunaly it didn't work, but i found a fork from the dw2102 module, orginally s2-liplianin and patched för terratec and some ohter new cards. Here the link https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/pi-vdr-mit-cinergy-s2-usb-stick-0ccd-0102/2/  in case someone else buys the same card. The kernel needs to be upgraded to 3.19, doing  apt-get install --install-recommends linux-image-generic-lts-vivid.

Anyhow, after getting the card running, i had to add unstable/yavdr PPA because the vdr-plugin-streamdev-server,client and remotetimers doesn't install from the linuxmce repo, hence blocking the pluto-vdr install. With everything installed, VDR works great with LMCE :)

Edit: So in conclusion, after some tinkering everything i used in 1204 works in 14.04 with amd64 core and i386 MDs. Video, audio, radio, live TV, lights with tellstick, squeezeboxes and Asterisk :)

Thanks for the feedback.

re missing vdr debs: We are in the process of providing the needed VDR debs in the LinuxMCE repo for all archs in the future.
