Title: LMCE 1404 Initial Install Notes for Core/Hybrid system.
Post by: pigdog on May 19, 2014, 10:08:09 pm
Hi guys,

1) I did not select "Install this third party software".

2) Under computer name "Geforce-8000-series-invalid-entry-length-0-DMI-table-is-broken-Stop" message received.
   Same on 12.04 install.

3) Liked the return of "please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER:".

4) Selected *Ubuntu on Gnu Grub menu.

4) Ooooh - fancy glowy kubuntu!

5) System booted temporarily into kubuntu desktop - then restarted with Grub memu.  Selected *Ubuntu.

6. Received network messages (including 60 seconds and booting without full network).

7) Got AVWizard after selecting initial screen size got lots of error message...
systemd-udevd[XXXXX]:failed to execute 'lib/udev/socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event' 'socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event': No such file or directory

8) DVI/HDMI (first choice) with analog audio selected.

   Screen ratio:       16:9
   Video output:      DVI
   Video resolution:   720p
   Video refresh:      60
   Audio connector:   Analog Stereo
Dolby sound test passed: not available
DTS sound test passed: not available

9) Upon "I agree" again got lots of...
systemd-udevd[XXXXX]:failed to execute 'lib/udev/socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event' 'socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event': No such file or directory

10) Then...

    0
    ConfirmDependencies Install is running
    ConfirmDependencies Install is done
    InstallNewDevice is running

    ...looking good.  Wait for it...

... after 32 minutes on my system received LMCE installation screens.

11) After 2 hours I'm still waiting for Sarah to say "hello".

I opened a terminal window - OK that works.

The first thing reported by the dcerouter login: ConfirmDependencies buildall is running.

    I logged in.  It worked.

    Running 3.13.0-24-generic.  Have name@dcerouter:~$ prompt.

Logged in as root.  Have dcerouter_1:~# prompt.  Switched back to F7 - nothing, then back to F1.

Did top - flipped around between top, asterisk, ksoftirqd/0, mysqld, StorageDevices_, rcu_sched, etc. but nothing hogging the cpu.

Nothing ran as a heavy user.  Nothing of the conssistant programs ran above 1%.

12) I will let the system run for up to 4 hours.  At that point I will reboot to see if anything develops.

Oh! Just great.  I lost power.

System is restarting.  Booting without full network configuration.

I'll save this now, just in case I get dumped again.

Cheers.

Hi,

I think the delay is @ skins are being generated.

I can't get to Sara until the skins are done.  I'll let it run to see what happens.

Hi,

I let it go for five hours and still no skins generated and no Sarah.

Since everyone was complaining about their computers/phones/etc. not being able to connect to the internet and ifconfig reported messed up eth0/eth1 (plus I couldn't get into webadmin to swap the network interfaces), I physically switched network interfaces.

I then cold booted the system (PSU power off).

kubuntu did not complain about the network.

Screens were generated.

I got the setup wizard screen but I could not see or hear Sarah.  The wizard did recycle (restart - flash).

I completed the wizard unaided by Sarah.

eth0 came up as 192.168.1.64 and eth1 came up as 192.168.80.1

Everyone still could not connect to the network.  (I could - I laughed ha ha you evil wrong doers, justice has prevailed - they were not amused).

Quite a few packages failed to download, I didn't catch them all, the Complaint Department was busy.

Here's some that failed.

Failed to get LinPhone library.
Failed to get Debian Font Manager
Failed to get MNG library
Failed to get Pluto MythTV Player

They did try multiple attempts to download.

The main menu came up.

I'm going to shutdown and get everyone back online before proceeding.

Cheers.

Hi,

Power up the system.  Got the main menu.
Opened a terminal and did apt update/upgrade.
Patched around the NO_PUBKEY message for download.videolan.org.
Did an apt-get autoremove to get rid of some non required packages.  Saw some MythTV issues and rebooted.
Did update/upgrade.  Update ran clean.  Upgrade reported 2 not fully installed or removed.

When I did the upgrade this was the overall error message.

Configuring NAS1 message received.

I got "Quick reload router" request, screens regenerated.

I eneter username/password.  Screens are not flickering like on 12.04.

When things settled down I rebooted. (Sorry, experienced with Windows.)

Screens regenerated.

WOW!  Thanks for this!  We have just produced our first snapshots for 1404 and we are expecting the potential for lots of issues!

1) I did not select "Install this third party software".

:)

2) Under computer name "Geforce-8000-series-invalid-entry-length-0-DMI-table-is-broken-Stop" message received.
   Same on 12.04 install.

Weird, I've never seen that.  This should not interfere with anything during the installation.

3) Liked the return of "please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER:".

heh.  nothing has changed here, 1204/1404.  Not sure why it is not displaying on 1204.  The dvd boot menu has been altered so that if the dvd is left in the drive it will boot the hard drive by default.

5) System booted temporarily into kubuntu desktop - then restarted with Grub memu.  Selected *Ubuntu.

I saw that the first time I tried 1404 from net install, but not from the dvd, interesting.

6. Received network messages (including 60 seconds and booting without full network).

Did you have to swap network cards at some point?  This could be caused by the nics getting reordered.

7) Got AVWizard after selecting initial screen size got lots of error message...
systemd-udevd[XXXXX]:failed to execute 'lib/udev/socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event' 'socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event': No such file or directory

hald is not running right now, it loads and exits without error.  It should stay running.  Havn't had a chance to check it yet.

11) After 2 hours I'm still waiting for Sarah to say "hello".

I have not seen AV playback working on 1404 as of yet.

Power up the system.  Got the main menu.
Opened a terminal and did apt update/upgrade.
Patched around the NO_PUBKEY message for download.videolan.org.

Not necesary to patch around this, it is an informational message only, we don't require the keys for installations to work/function.

Did an apt-get autoremove to get rid of some non required packages.  Saw some MythTV issues and rebooted.
Did update/upgrade.  Update ran clean.  Upgrade reported 2 not fully installed or removed.

When I did the upgrade this was the overall error message.

...

chown: cannot access ‘/var/www/mythweb/data’: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing package pluto-mythtv-plugin (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 pluto-mythtv-player
 pluto-mythtv-plugin

There's the actual error.  The chown, something with mythweb.  I wonder if it installed or not.  Can you pastebin the output of `dpkg -l | grep myth`

The system xorg.conf is defaulted to the "nouveau" driver.

:(  Hmm.  Can you pastebin the output of `apt-cache policy nvidia-current`

Via the main menu Advanced>KDE Desktop - worked.

I powered up my NAS (DNS-323) for autodetection.

It was discovered and LMCE added my file shares.

Software discovery was re-kicked and the following tried to download...

asterisk-perl
linphone library
EXIF/IPTC metadate maniplulation library
QT GUI library MT v3
Debian Font Manager
MNG library
Pluto MythTV Player
Pluto MythTV Plugin
CIFS Utils (Old SAMBA Utils)

...these all reported failed to get, recycled a couple of times until "Installing software finished". appeared.

hmm, I'll have to check some logic and package definitions.  We know why myth was failing but the qtv3 and debian font manager shouldn't be installing for 1404.  If you could file a ticket for this I'd really appreciate it.

Advanced>Computing>Web Admin good.  Edited Software modules to Disk Drive and Videolan client - checked.

Did Disk Drive not install automatically?  Why are you checking 'Videolan client'?  I don't even think we support vlc currently.

Will try Hardware acceleration - xv, no Deinterlace Quality, Standard Video Card tests later.

Sweet!  Thank you!

J.

Hi,

Quickly...

DNS-323 NAS recognized as Windows Share.  Did username/password (learned my lesson from 12.04).

When trying to play my test DVD...

- flipping through artwork to next page would freeze
- cross-hair mouse would disappear
- eventually the freeze would release, the mouse return.

The paging function would eventually return to normal.

It might be something related to Updatemedia.

I will have to turn top on and see if something is chewing up CPU %.

I just did before playing the DVD and UpdateMedia was running at 20+CPU% but eventually settled down.

Seemed to take a lot longer than usual to finish up media detection on NAS HDD's.

Tried to run test DVD and received a black screen.

F1 to terminal  - nothing much reported by "top", at least nothing seemed to hog the CPU.

F7 went back to Flickr screensaver/main menu.

Went through this cycle (play movie, check top, F7) and always came back to Flicker screensaver/main menu.

Sorry, no movie playback.

Did apt-get...

apport apport-gtk apport-kde libpurple-bin libpurple0 locales python-lxml python3-apport python3-problem-report

...will be thorough and reboot.

Tried again. Sorry, no movie playback.

Hi,

Since xine never showed up on top when I tried to play a DVD I went into webadmin and setup hardware acceleration and deinterlace to vdpau.

I changed the video card over to geforce.

Got installation window reporting all the uninstalled packages trying to re-install again.

Quick reload - got all the packages trying to install again.

When finished I rebooted.

Double checked webadmin and vdpau and geforce still set.

did "top" selected a BD disk and top showed mplayer running at 4% CPU (a second mplayer ran @ 1%).

MPlayer_Player would occasionally populate the list.

UpdateMedia was constantly running @ approx. 15% CPU

OrbiterGL @ approx. 7% CPU.

No movie video played but I did have audio (albeit low) and the main menu showed LinuxMCE Blu-ray Disc and when I went back and forth between F1 and F7 I was not kicked back to screensaver.

Cheers.

Hi,

I reloaded 14.04 from scratch this a.m. (I broke it bad).

I did an apt-update/upgrade and noticed some nvidia changes.

apt-cache policy nvidia-current now shows 304.117-0ubuntu1 installed.

Cheers

Hi,

I reloaded 14.04 from scratch again ( apt update/upgrade) this morn and tried playing DVD's and BD's.

DVD did not play.  BD played with video and audio using xv accleration and standard card.

Sound had to be adjusted in alsamixer.

Mplayer ran @ approx 75% CPU.

When I get time later in the week I'll try vdpau acceleration, vdpau deinterlacing and GeForce card.

BD playback on the Core from the NAS was smooth.

Cheers

Hi,

I tried to play blu-ray using vdpau acceleration, acceleration and de-interlacing, acceleration, de-interlacing and GeForce video card with no success.

Rebooted system after each change.

Cheers
