samba password expired? last night I did an apt-get upgrade and I think there was also along the lines of smb included.
Anyways this morning I was not able to access my fileshares on the server. I had to go to the webadmin and change the password for my user. So I'm guessing the password for smb actually expired- is this by design?

no, and it never happened on my system which has had Samba username and password since the first alpha of 0810

the same thing is happening to me. samba errors:
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [joerod] -> [pluto_joerod] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
/etc/samba/smbpasswd
pluto_joerod:10000:136F50F84BE46F24AAD3B435B51404EE:34915F325133F948C86899E373B65274:[U ]:LCT-00000001:,,,
/etc/passwd
pluto_joey:x:10000:10000:,,,:/home/user_1:/bin/false
trying to change samba password (command-line)
dcerouter_1036104:/etc/samba# smbpasswd joerod
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
Failed to find entry for user joerod.
dcerouter_1036104:/etc/samba#
Any ideas?
