Title: install experience on RC1
Post by: maverick0815 on January 12, 2013, 09:30:04 pm
Today I did an install of lmce 10.04 RC1
I got a core with an older AMD dual core on an Asrock MB, 2GB Ram, 2x2TB hdd, and a Geforce 8400GS, a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS with an added Coax SPDIF out and for TV a Hauppauge Nova HD-S2.
I have one MD running- or rather still installing- an Asrock Ion 330.
The install itself ran pretty straight forward, no problems there. In contrast to the last snapshot I Installed, my mediafiles were all detected an added to the database immediately.
What I did find out during my install so far is this:

So far these are my findings. I will update this, as soon I find something else.

IMDB is not working, always returns no result. However the autotag is doing a nice job, though its not finding all the movies.

Hi... these are all my thingies.

I have to add that non-free firmware package as well. Some need it, some don't. The decision was made to just install them on a case by case basis. I will see if I can't just get that package installed again.

I added functionality to handle the Audigy2 specifically a few weeks ago. It may not be perfect yet. It reports devices in a non-standard way. If you want to drop into IRC, I will try and make it better. (I see you dropped in not too long ago).

As for 260, we are at "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" stage. There are mechanisms in place to install the latest driver (304.xx), but it is an ugly way to do things, so I only do it IF there is a REQUIREMENT to do so. You can switch, if you like. It will only require uninstalling 260, and moving your pciid around in nvidia-install.sh from 260 supported to nvidia-current supported.

The IMDB is a known issue. It did not affect me so I was sluggish to fix it. I will do that today.

This is also going to upgrade your alsa by default... so, again, drop into IRC and we can go over all of this.

Thanks again for your help. The nvidia-driver issue seems finished so far. I take it the new script will not be killed by the next update?
If you need any info or testing done with the audigy2, I'm at your disposal.

It seems its not only IMDB, which is not working...thetvdb.com is also having trouble. If I want to tag TV-Shows with it, it finally give this :
Quote
Duplicate entry '3967-0-0-0' for key 'PRIMARY'

Trying the autotag feature, which right now has a success-rate of about 90% on my movies, it will start downloading and then gets stuck forever at "expanding" ...no progess whatsoever. It goes as far that the webadmin is not reacting anymore...and the tv starts losing its sound...it gets tinny, until it fades away. Only reload router will alleviate that.
