Makes me wanna see more :)
Keep up the good work.

Agree, very nice...

And i'm also very interested to see how the floor plans will evolve.
I'm using LinuxMCE mostly for home automation, so...

It's a nice design, the only thing I may suggest, is that the icons be drawn by the same artist, so as to have consistency. The icon images do not look consistent, different lighting, styling, etc. Consistency is _exceedingly_ important, and makes the difference between a good design, and an exceptional one.

Yes I agree. e.g. imho the telephony icon really jumps out.

Hey ....

thanks for your response.
Except the climate icon, its one icon set!
As you may know, its really difficult to find free, good looking, reasonable sized, icon sets that cover most of the buttons needed for LinuxMCE ...

If you know a good icon set let me know :-)

@tschak909, you are right, good consistent icons are the base of a good design. Icons will be the main issue on that design.

hey ...

i have to rethink the menu. i missed the function to open the floorplan.

i think about opening the floorplan doing a double click on the main icon. good or bad? ;-)

Floorplan in Orbiter is used by clicking on the main icon. Double clicking is no option for qOrbiter.

ok ... i'll provide a new Navigation fot that screen asap: http://dokuwiki.knallimall.org/_detail/de/lmce-ipad-home-submenu.png?id=de%3Alinuxmce_qorbiter

What gestures are possible in qOrbiter?

Has anyone looked into "lifting" an Open Source icon set? They might not have everything needed for a home automation setting, but I've seen some nice ones associated with the Cairo-dock project.

Here's a link to the open icons library on Source Forge:

what about the time till the longpress event is fired?
Title: Re: qOrbiter Skin - first design

The longpress timeout is defined globally, afaik

The longpress timeout is defined globally, afaik

In my opinion its important to set a proper value otherwise its it will take to long e.g. to open the floorplan ....

it should be enough to set it globally, but it might be useful to adjust the time depending on the called function.

just wanted to share different thoughts of a possible design.
What do you think about a additional button for floorplan in the main bottom menu?

i still prefer the first screen :-)

What about the swipe gesture? is there only swipe from "left to right" and "right to left"? or is there a "from top to bottom" like iOS does to call the notification center?

Version 1 for sure.

If the room tags horizontally across the top of the floorplan extend beyond the end of the screen I assume you would (and can) suffix with "..."  and make it left-right scroll-able?

is this intended for tablets?

Also a couple things

1) QOrbiter doesnt run well in a VM. So i consider it an unsupported configuration.
2) Opengl isnt enabled by default. i guess i roll that into a command line opt or somethin
3) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6ucnrflo6w7ry8m/AecFEjsyVS is where im going to start keeping builds. READ THE README
*These are pre-compiled binaries including the qml so it can be hacked on without needing to re-compile. Just reload or switch to and from a skin to reload it.

I did not realize you were on a mac. that would make things more difficult as i dont have a mac to make binaries for it. Really wish we had more than a handful of developers some days...

Working on it. Have a mac user who is willing to lend me his rig. Yes, im having to go rent time on a machine to produce binaries for a platform that i truly could care less about.

Wait, i dont have to drive across the city to work!? :)

I need to know what version of Qt you have installed. 4.7? 4.8? Im guessing I didnt have a binary for your version of Qt availible.

1) what version of kubuntu - most important as i could look up what version of Qt ships with this
2) what version of qt

Then ill crank out a binary and post it. What was the error the 1st time you tried?

I hope this helps:

Kbuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Qt Creator 2.4.1
Qt 4.7.4 (32 bit) - Revision 8cd370e163

The way i used to run qOrbiter

- checkout src & web
- download skins
- call that php script to generate orbiter
- open in Qt Creator
- edit config.xml to select skin
- click on play button to compile and run qOrbiter

i click one of the listed qOrbiters (cant type in the device id for some reason, no cursor), i can see the first screen for a second and thats it ...

Output last qOrbiter build: http://pastebin.com/Pr5KiW3C

There is no Qt Creator shipped with 10.04, and the version of Qt shipped with 10.04 is too old. You will have to install the version on Qt's site.

Is there a good time we can get together in IRC and chat?

I suspect the the qMediaPlayer / qMediaPlayer plugin may not be there and thusly, causing some issues. Bit of a transition time at the moment as I embedding qOrbiter a little deeper in the system and there are some parts on the server side that need to be installed.

Thank you for your patience in dealing with me. Im very new at the whole 'distributing' software part. Running it on my machine is no problem, other...not so much. But almost there!

awesome !!!

ask any questions you have here or in irc.

A quick note:
Once you compile it yourself, you can just run the output and not have to use the run button every time.
Any skin you work on, needs to go along side the other ones. If you look in the QML folder, you should be able to get an idea of the general basic structure. But like I said, any questions ask here or irc :)

also

ive been working on documenting the api, should be done soon.

ok  thx!
First question, lets say i want to use "default" as the base of my skin.

Which skin folder is used? the one on the local machine or the other one on the core machine?
Are there any don'ts ? I mean things i should stricly avoid?

For now i guess i'll put the whole thingie in my subversion repo. Hope this is ok with you.

Cant wait to put my hands on !!!! :-)

In the case of a desktop machine, the skins are read locally. The skins are located in qml/desktop.

Just create a folder with the name of what you want it to be in that folder and it should get picked up and read by qOrbiter.

step by step ...   :)

Things i have right now:

- duplicated the "default" skin and renamed it
- Tested some color and opacity changes, wooooohooo it works and the most important: I like the way it works :-D
- Setup my own svn repository for now, if someone wants to have access to it let me know...

Questions:
- is it possible to use default skin as fallback? So if a screen in my newly created skin does not exist it falls back to the default one? Like they do it in Piwigo (Webgallery), dokuwiki and Magento
- Can i load components, like channel list on the Screen_1.qml (http://dokuwiki.knallimall.org/_detail/de/lmce-ipad-home-currently_playing.png?id=de%3Alinuxmce_qorbiter) the ajax way or does this need to be present when screen_1.qml is loaded?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33136233/Android-ICS-apk/QOrbiter-release.apk

This freshly baked test-release has a few things
*improved support for different directories
*a wip skin directory for people to play with

Please test that it installs properly. Then, AND ONLY THEN, update your skins directory :)
How do you know if it installed properly? It will say it cant connect to 192.168.80.1
If there is no, ip, it i didn't install correctly. and you should revert to a saved apk.

Without making a long story too long, a lot of the buttons will be broken / empty while I update them. I refactored the threading implementation and a lot of things changed under the hood.

Yes, do an svn up. I should have made this a two phase thing but meh, no offense but I just need to keep rolling forward so I dont always have time to make the transitions smooth. From what I could determine in the log, the problem is its trying to load stuff that isnt there. so yes, please go ahead and svn up.

Also, nice to see the function to find the external storage location is working :)

Do the images I produce have to be in PSD format? And I assume you need transparent background?

Cheers,
Matt.

PSD is fine.
Yep, i need a transparent background.

Would be great to stay with the "steam punk style" ... but i guess this is even more time-consuming.
here are all my files i used: http://cloud.knallimall.org/public.php?service=files&dir=%2Fadmin%2Ffiles%2FLMCE-Skin-redpad

and sorry, still need to list the required images :-/

I have a little toy here listening to the name of Panasonic KX-UT670. This is a SIP-phone with touchscreen, running on android 2.2
unfortunately it doesn't have playstore installed and installation of software is done via a dedicated admin function. I was however able to download the latest qorbiter from the link provided by golgoj.
For ministro I had to go to sourceforge, because logging in to google playstore via web listed ministro as being installed on my cellphone and didn't really care to install on this unit...dunno, maybe I'm too stupid for that one...
Anyways, I downloaded ministro II from sourceforge, installed it and started qorbiter....but it said this version wasn't compatible and it wanted to upgrade ministro service...but so far that fails. How can I get this to run?
By the way this phone supports configuring via a cfg-file, which means it could be made plug&play for lmce (at least I think so)
