Hi All,
After a week of attempts to install lmce, trying not to give up with all the issues, I had reached a stage where the media director boots from the core, and downloads the nvidia driver. However, it eventually hangs forever, and nothing happen. I checked the logs for Xorg, and can see errors with the nvidia driver.
I am using Nvidia GT 430, and expect to have HDMI Sound.
I am using LMCE 8.10.
Running a core on a pc, and a Media director on another one.
Is there a way to have the driver updated to the latest release of 290.10? I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Dan

What are the errors?
Can you start the MD and then, as root on your core, (where XX is the MD number) and try the following;
ssh moonXX
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get install alsa-modules-`uname -r`
apt-get install nvidia-glx-260
Please post the results of this effort. If all goes successfully reboot the md (if it does not reboot itself) and see if it comes up.
*Note that surrounding uname -r are backticks (typically above the tab key), not single quotes.

Thanks l3mce for your reply.
The following is the output, (nvidia failed, attached also the sources.lst)

So sorry... was not paying attention...
ssh moon31
apt-get install nvidia-glx-195
It is possible your card is just too new... haven't seen it before... but if that will not run your HW, you are going to have to try 1004.

Hi l3mce,
Before getting your reply, I tried to reboot the MD, and I was surprised that it started with the AV Wizard, which I completed succesfully with 1080p, although sound is not working now, but just trying complete this part. Then it started to update and perform different services restart on the core and md. After an hour, checking the logs on the MD, I found nothing is happening, with a message on the screen restarting core devices. So I rebooted the md. everything goes well, starting in 1080p, then a message on the screen: Starting device 33 OnScreen Orbiter, and for an hour again, nothing is happening!
Now, should I run the apt-get install nvidia command ?
Can I setup the sound over HDMI if it works ?
Thanks l3mce,
-
Hi l3mce,
Another progress,
I passed that problem of the Orbiter not starting.
Now, I can see a screen with menus, seems to be the third option of the menus (opengl...). However, the mouse only responds, but no menu works, and seems to be frozen from the clock, which stopped as soon as it started.
I didn't run the apt-get for nvidia yet.
Cheers,
-
I am not sure I understand.
ssh moon31
amixdigital=$(amixer | grep Simple | grep IEC | cut -d' ' -f4,5,6 | sort | uniq); for output in $amixdigital; do amixer sset $output unmute; done
apt-get install pluto-orbiter
apt-get install pluto-orbiter-gen
/usr/pluto/bin/RebootWithAVWizard.sh
Lets set the resolution to UI1 till we get everything figured out, and test your audio over HDMI again.
-
Hi l3mce,
Ok, I actually went a little further with the installation. Installed latest nvidia driver, 290.10, disabled the auto load of nvidia driver in the nvidia script (/usr/pluto/bin/nvidia_install..sh), then went through the setup, and chose hdmi, resolution 1080p, all went ok, and restarted the md, with no issues, which went started to display photos / slide show.
The problem now is sound. I try to play any movie, just nothing happens, and after looking at the Xine_Player.log :

Hi l3mce,
Sorry to send you output on different posts, but I just forgot to include the first command you sent:
amixdigital=$(amixer | grep Simple | grep IEC | cut -d' ' -f4,5,6 | sort | uniq); for output in $amixdigital; do amixer sset $output unmute; done
root@moon31:/home/sysadmin# echo $amixdigital
root@moon31:/home/sysadmin#
as far as I can tell, amixer doesn't return any value.
Regards,
Dan

Try removing the alsa-modules... it is going to get weird because you are using an unsupported driver, and frankly I don't even know how you are running 290 on 810.
apt-get remove alsa-modules-`uname -r`
You might try apt-get install alsa-base --reinstall
But from here on out you are kind of on your own. I can't try and figure out what is going on if you are using unsupported drivers. My goal is not so much to get you working, but to figure out bugs which makes things work for everyone. You are modifying install scripts and changing drivers around.
-
I think, even if it works, I wouldn't go with a non supported solution.
I would go to the standard version, if audio could be supported.
For me it has been a very frustrating experience working for almost two weeks to get the system up and running. I am testing 4 computers, with different display cards. Still, I cannot say I had a working solution, as no sound, and no audio.
i can delete the md from the core, and restart over, but sound will be the issue, if I get the driver working again. is there anything extra that should be done ?
Do I need to backup the current config or machine?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi l3mce,
I started over again.
This time the process went smoother until the Wizard, where I chose 1080p and Voice over HDMI.
Now, the MD has restarted, and in the first screen, (I think Sarah talking ) There is no video, and no sound. (can only see a black box).
I installed the alsa modules, but the rest were already installed.

Looking into it. Will get back to you as soon as I can figure something out or need help figuring it out.
*Ok... I am a bit stumped and want to say that if alsa cannot find the hardware with the kernel modules installed, the newer hardware MAY just not work on 810...
First, make sure any native drivers are turned off in your bios for onboard sound... but since aplay -l isn't finding them, I don't know that this is an issue.
Try the following, even though aplay -l is NOT showing up (it may never).
aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Cycle through 1,3 1,5 1,7 1,8 1,9 with the same command and see if the command plays.
If one of those works, let me know so I can try to make a patch which will figure this out automatically, and add a line to /etc/pulse/client.conf after the alsa-sink line:
#load-module module-alsa-sink
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:1,X
replacing X with the one that may have worked. Reboot.
-
I did that test, and none of them worked.

Hi l3mce,
During my last test, when I installed Nvidia 290.10, and latest alsa, I was able to get output from the aplay -l command, with more than one line, think about 3-5 lines. I started over again, but this is what I remember from my tests.
Thanks,
Dan
-
Well... don't give up on me yet...
Have you made it through AVWizard? And if so, have you selected HDMI as your output? That last post presumes so... AFTER alsa-modules is installed.
Latest alsa has other issues. There is a reason it is pinned where it is.
-
Yes l3mce, I did.
Run the wizard with HDMI output.
Cheers,
