Hello,
I'm looking to control a driveway gate through linuxMce. So far, I didn't find a gate motor that can be controlled via zwave or X10. I did find the following heavy duty zwave relay (http://www.smarthome.com/119303/Z-Wave-30A-Relay-Contactor-Module-CA3750/p.aspx) but it is marked as discontinued. Another option is to use a zwave switch to control a non-zwave heavy duty relay that controls a regular gate motor.
Also, the zwave specifications mention a range of 30 meters assuming "open air". The distance may be an issue because the straight line from the house to the gate is obstructed by shrubs.
Is anyone familiar with:
1. Using LinuxMce to control a motor a heavier load motor (e.g. contrary to a blind motor within the home), using zwave, X10 or other means?
2. Controlling from a larger distance?
Regards,
Avner

Hi Avner,
I had a Automated gate that I controlled via an X10 unit. UM7206. Now I was able to open teh gate from inside the house via the intercom button.
As far as I understand this is a Dry contact that triggers the relay at the gate motor to open. I just connected the UM7206 to the "button" on the intercom. The gate was then under linuxmce as a 'Light switch" named "Gate". When ever i press the "Gate" the UM7206 will "click" and the gate opens. (My gate was set to close again after 30 sec, this was not done via LMCE)
The link is from a local supplier in South Africa.

Hope I make sense........

Thanks Karel,
This makes sense.

A garage door with contact closure connectors can be connected via a GC-100 device's relay outputs. This can then be controlled via a lighting scenario in the garage.

Thom,
The GC-100-12 would be the recommended one?
