Title: Demo server
Post by: brononius on September 05, 2011, 08:11:37 am

With the discussion of new features (fe monitoring), i was wondering how we could be able to show something.
You can start uploading printscreens and so, but i believe this isn't the way.

Is their a way to give somebody access with only read privilege?
This way, others can have a look without touching your server.

Or is it an option to install an online demo server?

Or are there other ways?

Why not invest in the wiki telling about setting it up virtual in virtualbox?

But this is again locally, no?

I'm aiming on something that others can access in order to have a view. That they can experience, play around with the tools.
A kind of print-screen, snapshots... Something dynamically.

Not if you open it up to the internet.

Yep, but i don't want that you guys start to turn on/off my lights. ;)
Or open my webcams...  :-[

So a kind of 'read' account is mandatory for this...

Yeah, but
Virtualbox + Internet access can be set up to control whatever you want, you can easily not set up webcams  :)

If you want something more than screenshots and static data, I'd say that a virtual machine is the way to go
