Title: folderlock working?
Post by: _if_ on September 04, 2011, 11:32:29 am
Hi guys,

I remember somebody mentioning that creating a file named 'foldername'.folderlock would prevent the system to check this folder for new media. I can't get that to work, is that feature currently working?

thanks

I have a folder called transfer and a file called transfer.folderlock in my video folder. I copy stuff into transfer, and it never gets cataloged. After the copy process completes, I move it up into video, and it does get cataloged.

ok thanks posde,

thats exactly the way I tried it. maybe it just takes some time for the system to remove the data from database again...

No, it does not REMOVE the data from the database, it will just not ADD stuff to the database from those folderlocked directories.

ok, so if I had the folder before with content in it and that was added to the database already and now I create a folderlockfile, the stuff will stay in database until I remove it manually?

My understanding was that it didn't matter what order you do these things in.

If you have stuff in a folderlocked folder, it won't show up. You might have to wait for a while, maybe reload/reboot and wait some more, yes.

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes, that is my understanding.

folderlocks simply prevent UpdateMedia from crawling into that folder. if it has already done so in the past, then whatever media it found will still be available even after application of a folderlock.

Well I have learnt something today. I stand corrected; sorry about that _if_.

How does he remove the media?

hey,

I just moved that folder to my desktop station and the media did not show up anymore in the database after some time and a reload. Then I moved back the folder to the core and now it's showing up again even the folderlock file is still there.

My folder is in public and is called "exchange" and the folderlockfile is called "exchange.folderlock" and it is in public as well (not in exchange).
Is that alright this way?

thanks

That wont do the thing u have the files in the database so if u take out the media and move it to some folder that is not used by MCE structure that media wont be shown ,but if u take it back in the folder where it belongs then it will be shown again no matter if the folder is locked ,without root permissions and stuff .The only solution is to go into the webadmin and remove it from the database which is annoying and hard because all your files will be there and u have to select them
