Title: internetradio
Post by: maverick0815 on May 17, 2010, 11:28:39 am
I was wondering if there will be some sort of internetradio integration. For example, I have a hardware internetradio (fritz!mini) which can receive some internetstreams on its own. However I have to manually select the station at the radio itself. So aside from the limitations, that this device only likes m3u, pls and mp3 radiostations, I thought it would be cool, if there would be a local linuxmce-radiostation, which I could set my radio to receive..and then on the orbiter select any internetradio and stream it to that device ???

There is an integration with Logitech Squeezebox in the LinuxMCE. Also there is a way to add some internet radiostation as scenario. But there is no universal interface to the internet radio.

You can use the Shoutcast Radio Plugin. It is not working 100% at the moment but you can try and see if it works for you.

We're in the early phases of using the Squeezebox Server to stream these to either physical SB's or to our new Squeezeslave devices. We are planning to transition over to making all of Squeezebox Server's streams browsable & selectable from the Orbiter.

When we have stable cut of this we will put it up on the svn.

All the best

And how is the shoutcast radio plugin to be installed?

LinuxMCE wiki has a search function ;)

A better option is to use google with

site:wiki.linuxmce.org

That way, you will be able to search for shorter words as well. The wiki search is limited to words of length 4 and longer iirc.

WOW!

Thanks Pos, this will be really useful, and not just for searching the Wiki!

It's amazing what you can learn!  :D

okay...thanks alot.
That would mean, I have to make the Fritz!Mini known to Linuxmce somehow...unless someone here has indepth knowledge on how to convince those AVM-Products to work with that, thats probably not possible. Thats a bit of a problem that AVM causes...those boxes run on a linuxflavor, yet they let it run together with iTunes and Windowsmediaplayer, but not with the good stuff....

You want the AVM!Mini as an output device, like a squeezebox, don't you?

that was exactly my idea....however as I heard the Fritz!Mini has been discontinued, on the other hand they produce Fritz!Phone which can also receive internet-radio...but also only in connection with a fritz!box :-(

Utilizing a device as an output device would need the ability to control said device remotely. If you can remotely control the device, you can control it using LinuxMCE, after you have created a device template for it. I suggest, to fore go the AVM Mini, and just get a Logitech SqueezeBox (or SqueezeBox Receiver).

Sweet - looking forward to it.  I have a squeezebox boom (quite nice actually), but at this point all I use it for is playing music stored on LinuxMCE or internet radio/pandora. Eventually I want to get more squeezebox devices, being able to control them via lmce would make it that much better.
