Title: few issues...
Post by: Harris on May 14, 2010, 02:07:00 am
i'm still trying to figure everything out and i'm sorry if i'm asking stupid/overly answered questions.

how do i stop my core from starting as a MD or Orbiter?

when i open a video, i get an error, "[JACK] cannot open server" and then "[OpenAL] could not open device" and then the MPlayer closes.

i added a soft RAID card and a 2tb hard drive, during the wizard LMCE did find the drive and asked about using it but....how do i access it? i have a 320gb drive for the system and i'm planning on adding another 2tb drive for mirroring and use it for media and backup but i can't find it :-\

and a question about network setup, the only way i can really setup the core and network is to have the internet line coming into a router, that i will setting to bridge mode so i can have a wireless AP, and then to the core on a 10/100 NIC, and then from a 1000 NIC i installed in the core to a gigabit switch and then out to the rest of the network, can i do that? or does the wireless AP have to be after the core?

the reason behind this is because i have my core upstairs and want my wireless AP with it to get the best signal throughout the house, but i'm putting my gigabit switch in the basement so i can more easily run cable through the rest of the house, so my only other options would be to have the wireless AP behind the core, which will kill the gigabit connection, or have the wireless AP in the basement and possibly have poor signal upstairs.

any help is welcome, thank you.

and a big thanks to the developers involved in LMCE, you are really doing amazing stuff here  ;D

I'll answer some of the questions:

If you installed a hybrid core, you can disable the media/MD part of it by editing /etc/pluto.conf, and change AutostartMedia=1 to AutostartMedia=0

Don't know much about MPlayer, lmce uses Xine as its default player.

If you told LMCE to use the drive with "Use with LMCE directory structure" it will automatically link the drive into your audio, video, etc. folder. You should see a "Storage device XXx" or similar under audio in the Media File sync section of the web admin.

You can have the wireless AP both before and after your core. Just don't use wireless for any MDs, use wired network for them. Having the AP after the core will allow wireless devices to access your LMCE network, which might be desirable. (A laptop running some kind of orbiter for instance).
Don't see why having the AP behind the core would kill the Gigabit? If you plug the AP into one of the cable you run from the switch in the basement, for instance?

best regards,

thank you for the reply.

i'm not sure why, but when i open a video from KDE on the core it automatically opened it in Mplayer, once i set it to open in Xine that seems to work fine, thanks.

i found the hard drive under devices and set it to use the LMCE file structure and so now i see a short cut to the drive under /home/public/data/*whatever*, but i can't move anything to it and it only shows the free space of the 320gb OS drive...

the issue with the AP is that it is a 10/100 router running in bridge mode, so if i have it after the core it downgrade the bandwidth to 100m to the gigabit switch... that is if i understand all of this correctly, and i'm trying to avoid running another cable up from the switch to core because i don't have my house wired for ethernet yet so i'm trying to keep the amount of cables to a minimum. i just bought this 100 year old house and most of the walls are still plaster.

i will try to go back through the wiki, this is just very confusing to me  ???

thanks again for your reply  :)
