Title: Play audio on different MD
Post by: dcubox1 on May 06, 2010, 08:37:11 pm
Ok so yet again have another strange one :)

I have a MD setup but it has only standard audio (2channel)
On my hybrid I have 5 channel surround sound via optical SPDIF.

The MD is just hooked up to my projector....what im trying to do is have the video stream from my MD but play the audio from my hybrid!!! this possible??? :P

One way is to use floorplan wizard and have the media play on both. Possible problem: sync between audio and video due network delays.
Other way: get a sound card capable of 5.1 and optical output.

Currently if you stream the same video stream to two MD's or a Hybrid & and MD they will not be in perfect synch.

We are currently transitioning all audio only playback for Cascade/Dianemo over to squeezeslave. This will mean that when you play audio on an MD or several MD's you will be actually playing the audio through squeezeslave. Indeed this new sound architecture will allow you to create any number of audio 'outs' on your MD's or Core - the limit being the number of PCi or USB audio cards you have available (running 6 x usb audio 'outs' while playing a ripped DVD on a single Ion based MD is possible with this new sound architecture). The other advantage of this new sound architecture is that all audio is now in synch.

...so it might be possible to extend this sound architecture to allow for the audio component of a video stream to be routed to squeezeslave to. I say it might as we have not looked into this at all...and there may well be unexpected problems.

We have placed an early version of the above in the svn so that at some point in the near future it may appear in new 0810 builds.

All the best
