How to select alternate soundcard
« on: April 11, 2008, 08:27:21 pm »
Hi, I have an external usb sound that I would like to use rather than my on-board.  LinuxMCE defaults to the on-board and I really would like to know how to choose the usb over the on-board.  I looked around in the sound system area in system settings, but I am unfamiliar with KDE.  Any help?

you could start by disabling onboard sound in the bios and making sure the usb one has drivers for linux.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Asus M2V Via AM2 ATX
Lite-On LH-20A1S SATA DVD Burner
80GB  SATA-150
EVGA GeForce 7300 GT 512MB DDR2 PCI Express
Sound Blaster Audigy SE
Kingston 2 GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
Ultra X-Finity 800-Watt
ZCU000
Cisco 7970

It is disabled in bios.  Linux found a way to bypass that toggle.  Driver yes, I've used it in unbuntu with 5.1 sound too.

Hi,

few options to try :

- try to disable kernel driver modules for unwanted card
- try to change order of sound card (LMCE will probably grab your first sound card...) - you can perhaps explore kernel module options..

HTH,

Thanks in advance,
