Xine features in LinuxMCE? A/V sync / zoom
« on: June 03, 2007, 09:57:55 pm »
I couldn't find a way to adjust A/V sync and/or zoom into my media with LinuxMCE. 'z' didn't seem to work. Is it supported? Can I enable it somehow? I skimmed through xine.conf but couldn't find anything yet. I used to use these features a lot with mplayer.

The xine-ui keybindings won't work becase LinuxMCE Xine Player is a custom application built on top of xine-lib, not on top of xine-ui

Zoom functionality is planned to be present in the LinuxMCE 1.1, but it is not available in beta 2.

A/V sync is not planned to be present in LinuxMCE 1.1, so this is probably 1.2 feature-list plan.

If zoom is planned for 1.1 how about auto aspect ratio detection?

Is it perhaps possible to easily map, for example, the current brightness buttons to, for example, A/V sync? Or am I looking at it too simple?

This feature is on the top of my list at the moment. Any word from the developers on this issue?

Might i inquire why aspect ratio is not a priority? I know that there are numerous poeple, here and on the pluto forums who are experiencing issues with widescreen monitors and wrong aspect ratios for DVDs. It seems that this feature would benefit quite a few people and wouldn't be too much of a headache to implement.

@norcal
i understand you very well and i'd like to change the aspect ratio at different videos, but this is what the main developer of xine_player said.

Displaying the correct aspect ratio is may more important than being able to zoom IMOP.  Currently on my 16:9 display, DVD's and SD shows recorded from the Mythbackend are squished horizontally.  It's basically unwatchable.  I either have to watch the show from inside the MythTV frontend which is annoying, or I have to set my TV to zoom.  The 2nd option is bad because it causes a significant portion of the top and bottom of the image to get chopped off.

Xine natively supports auto aspect ratio detection.  Please reconsider making this a priority for the 1.1 release.

Thanks

Sorry, i guess i wasn't clear. I too was referring to correct auto-aspect ratio, not zoom.

Yeah! Auto aspect IS VERY important. Should be one the top 5 to be fixed!

Xine natively supports auto aspect ratio detection.

Looks like Xine doesn't detect the correct ratio for these recorded movies. If you are experienced with Linux, can you try to play the same recorded video say, with Kaffeine and see if it will do auto-detect correctly. If it does detect it OK, please provide the version of libxine installed (in console you can do

dpkg -s libxine1 | grep Version

for this). If it doesn't detect, then this means the current libxine is just not capable to detect them (and should be considered as a bug - in which case we will ask you to provide a sample of such video file for checking :)
